Kiribati is an island nation located midway between the North Pacific and South Pacific Ocean comprising of 33 coral islands, divided into three major island groups, the Gilbert Islands, the Phoenix Islands, and the Line Islands some 4,585 km northeast of Brisbane, Australia, with a total population of approximately 111,796 inhabitants

The nation covers an area of 811 sq. km, almost all of which is land, averaging 138 persons per sq. km. 

Of the total land available 2.5% or 20 sq. km is arable. Almost 15% of the total land available or 121.65 sq. km is covered with forests.

The nation’s total GDP is valued at 197 million. The services sector is the island nation’s largest GDP contributor accounting for 70% of total GDP or 37.9 million. The services sector is followed by agriculture which accounts for 23% or 45.31 million of total GDP and industry which accounts for 7% or 13.79 million of total GDP.

The nation’s total labor force is estimated at 39,000 or 34.88% of the total population. Of the total labor force available 75% or 29,250 are employed in the services sector, 15% or 5,850 are employed in the agricultural sector and 10% or 3,900 are employed in the industrial sector. 

Kiribati’s main industries include fishing, and handicrafts.

The nation’s main produce include copra, breadfruit, and fish, and its primary exports are fish, and coconut products.

Kiribati’s major export partners are the Philippines 50.8%, Malaysia 17.2%, the United States 11.4%, Bangladesh 5.8%, and Fiji 5.4%. Its major import partners include Australia 29.3%, Fiji 17.3%, New Zealand 10.7%, China 5.8%, the United States 5.8%, Singapore 5.1%, Japan 4.6%, and Thailand 4.1%.
