Grenada
Grenada is an island in the Caribbean Sea located north of
Trinidad and Tobago with a total population of approximately 113,094
inhabitants.
The island covers an area of approximately 334 sq. km,
almost all of which is land, averaging some 339 persons per sq. km. Of the
total land available 8.8% or 29 sq. km is arable. Almost 50% of the total land
available or 167 sq. km is covered with forests.
The island’s total GDP is valued at 1.12 billion. The
services sector is the island’s largest GDP contributor accounting for 77.7% of
total GDP or 0.87 billion. The services sector is followed by industry
which accounts for 15.5% or 0.17 billion of total GDP and agriculture which
accounts for 6.8% or 0.08 billion of total GDP.
The island’s total labor force is estimated at 55,270 or
48.87% of the total population. Of the total labor force available 69% or
38,136 are employed in the services sector, 20% or 11,054 are employed in the
industrial sector and 11% or 6080 are employed in the agricultural
sector.
The island’s main industries include food and beverages,
textiles, light assembly operations, tourism, construction, education, and
call-center operations.
The island’s main agricultural produce include bananas,
cocoa, nutmeg, mace, soursop, citrus, avocados, root crops, corn, vegetables,
and fish.
The island’s primary exports are nutmeg, bananas, cocoa,
fruit and vegetables, clothing, mace, chocolate, and fish.
Grenada’s biggest trade partner is the United States which accounts for 25.3% of all exports and 31.7% of all imports. The island shares very good ties with the United States. Other export partners include Japan 10.1%, Guyana 8.7%, Dominica 6.6%, Saint Lucia 6.4%, Netherlands 4.7%, Barbados 4.1%, and Saint Kitts and Nevis 4%. Other major import partners include Trinidad and Tobago 24.9% and China 6.7%.
