Aruba
Aruba is an island in the Caribbean Sea located north of
Venezuela with a total population of approximately 119,428 inhabitants.
The island covers an area of approximately 180 sq. km,
almost all of which is land, averaging some 663 persons per sq. km. Of the
total land available 11.1% or 20 sq. km is arable. Almost 2.3% of the total
land available or 4 sq. km is covered with forests.
The island’s total GDP is valued at 2.7 billion. The
services sector is the island’s largest GDP contributor accounting for 66.3% of
total GDP or 1.79 billion. The services sector is followed by industry
which accounts for 33.3% or 0.90 billion of total GDP and agriculture which
accounts for 0.4% or 0.01 billion of total GDP.
The island’s total labor force is estimated at 51,610 or
43.21% of the total population. The island’s main industries are tourism,
petroleum transshipment facilities and banking.
The island’s main agricultural produce include aloes,
livestock and fish. The island’s primary exports are life animals and
animal products, art and collectibles, machinery and electrical equipment, and
transport equipment.
Aruba’s biggest trading partner is the United States which
accounts for 20.2% of all exports and 53.7% of all imports. The island shares
very good ties with the United States. Other export partners include Colombia
17.6%, Venezuela 13%, Netherlands 9.1%, Thailand 8.4%, and Panama 4.8%. Other
major import partners include the Netherlands 13.1%.
