Anguilla
Anguilla is an island in the Caribbean Sea located north of
Puerto Rico with a total population of approximately 18,090 inhabitants.
The island covers an area of approximately 90 sq. km, almost
all of which is land. Of the total land available 61.1% or 55 sq. km is covered
with forests.
The island’s total GDP is valued at 175.4 million. The
services sector is the island’s largest GDP contributor accounting for 86.4% of
total GDP or 151.55 million. The services sector is followed by industry
which accounts for 10.5% or 18.42 million of total GDP and agriculture which
accounts for 3% or 5.26 million of total GDP.
The island’s total labor force is estimated at 6,049 or
47.87% of the total population. Of the total labor force available 18% or
1,089 are employed in the services sector, 3% or 181 are employed in the
industrial sector and 74.1% or 4,482 are employed in the agricultural sector.
The island’s main industries include tourism; boat building,
and offshore financial services.
The island’s main agricultural activities include growing
tobacco, vegetables; and cattle raising.
The island’s primary exports are lobster, fish, livestock,
salt, concrete blocks, and rum.
